“The sun, with all those planets revolving around it and dependent on it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as if it had nothing else in the universe to do.” — Galileo
Everything is part of a grand design with purposes both great and small but all significant to the function of the whole. We are part of that design also and with significant purpose as well. You were called to do great things but not at the expense of the small things.
It’s a wonderful thing to strive to change the world for the better but don’t forget to wave and say hello to your neighbor as though you had nothing else in the universe to do because it matters just as much.
Whenever I stroll through my permaculture food forest in my yard I am amazed at God’s grand design and my part in it. I believe it would be a good thing if we could all see creation through the Biblical worldview and take notice of the big and little things that are all part of God’s plan. We just might find are ourselves humbled and yet also filled with purpose in this world.
As I am writing this I am reminded of Psalm 8
1. O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
2. Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.3. When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4. what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?5. Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings[b]
and crowned him with glory and honor.
6. You have given him dominion over the works of your hands;
you have put all things under his feet,
7. all sheep and oxen,
and also the beasts of the field,
8. the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea,
whatever passes along the paths of the seas.9. O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
